Sam Reider & Jorge Glem

“one-of-kind fusion of  folk music”

“It’s a very special thing when two musical cultures come together to create something that didn’t exist before.” – NPR

Grammy-nominated, Venezuelan, cuatro virtuoso Jorge Glem teams up with American accordionist, pianist, and composer Sam Reider to create a one-of-a-kind fusion of folk music. With jaw dropping virtuosity and infectious chemistry, these musicians and friends are breaking down all the boundaries between their two continents, languages, and cultures.

Jorge and Sam blend Venezuela’s driving dance rhythms with American folk music and jazz. Their debut record, Brooklyn Cumaná, features a mix of Venezuelan and American traditional music, original compositions, and collaborations with special guests. Brooklyn Cumaná was released in November 2022 at a concert at Lincoln Center. In February 2023 Glem and Reider performed on NPR’s Tiny Desk.

The duo will be playing selections from Brooklyn Cumaná on June 9th at 7pm at SummerFest 2023 at Cradle Valley Farm in New Hope, PA.

Both friendly and approachable in person, you’ll also have a chance to meet them after the show! The evening includes delicious food, cocktails, and great fun with good friends in the beautiful, warm, June weather!
Tickets will not be sold at the door, so please either buy tickets online or send a check for $175 per ticket. Thanks as always for supporting Concordia and we hope to see you at SummerFest!

Cello2Cello is a spectacular offering of music and musicians, not to be missed! First we will share Musica notturna delle strade di Madrid (Night Music of the Streets of Madrid), Opus 30, No. 6, G. 324, a quintet for stringed instruments, by Luigi Boccherini. This piece will be familiar to movie buffs as it was featured in the Russell Crowe film Master and Commander! Next we present the famous and much loved Kreutzer Sonata by Beethoven. This masterpiece was arranged for a quintet allowing us to hear the nearly symphonic writing distributed among five voices. Some say the arrangement may have been penned by Beethoven himself!

This concert will introduce you to the versatile cellist Jeffrey Zeigler, former member of the legendary Kronos String Quartet. Also, a young, award-winning violinist, Anna Lee, will be joining us for the first time. Regulars Siwoo Kim and Danny Kim will play violin and, of course, our own Michelle Djokic will play the other cello.

Our season culminates with a program The Telling Is in the Music on April 16th. The Piano Trio “be still and know” by Carlos Simon will open our concert. Then we explore Pisachi (Reveal) by Chickasaw classical composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate. This string quartet allows us to use our classical language to speak the language of Jerod Tate’s cultural heritage. We close this program with the Piano Quintet, Opus 57 by Dimitri Shostakovich whose music conveys lessons learned from his experiences in Communist Russia. The young superstar violist from Jamaica, Jordan Bak will be joining our wonderful line up of musicians.
