The Concordia Chair by Nakashima

Concordia-Chair

The Concordia Chair was designed for the Concordia Chamber Players in 2003, when the musicians and I discovered that the existing Nakashima chair designs were not suitable for the exuberant style of chamber music playing that Concordia exhibited. The result was a flat seat with an upright back providing minimal support and no obstruction to bowing. Director Michelle Djokics’ parents, who live in New Hope, had offered to give us the wood from a tree that had to be taken down in their yard, which was discovered to be English Walnut that yielded many planks of beautifully figured wood used to make the original set of seven chairs.
